“BAD” ATTITUDE: Larry Smith ’69 is an astronomy park ranger at Badlands National Park in South Dakota. He says he keeps busy “spreading the green and gold afar to some 350,000 summer visitors.” And he invites you to be one of them.

GOLDEN MOMENT: Loyd ’58 and Marjorie Schmitt Kindiger ’58 celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception on June 14 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Out-of-town guests included Loyd’s best man and Baylor roommate, Dr. W. F. “Dub” Howard ’58, who was known as “Sonny.” Loyd writes, “our sign-in table featured Baylor items including our graduation picture and our new Heritage Club diplomas!” Loyd and Marjorie can be reached by e-mail at lmkindiger@aol.com.

OLYMPIC TEAM: When Donnie Martinez ’83 arrived in Bejing, China, as a sports chaplain for the Olympic Games with the orgainzation Action Ministries International, he met some new Baylor grads who had joined the ministry team. BEAR PARTY: When Sara Akin ’07 and Jeff Johnson ’07 married in San Antonio on August 3, 2007, about forty of their Baylor friends made it to the wedding. BROTHERLY LOVE: This lovable pair belongs to Kristy Agent Tatum ’00 and her husband, James, a Texas Tech graduate. David, age three, and Lauren, eight months, live with their proud parents in Dallas, where Kristy is an escrow officer with Commerce Title.

GROUP GROWL: On October 20, 2007, Emily Grace Nicholson ’03 married Robert J. Simcox III at the Armstrong Browning Library on Baylor’s campus. The wedding party included Emilia Retta ’03, Abigail Morton-Garland ’03, Sara Calvert ’03, Jordan Rowan Fannin ’03, Catherine Yuan ’02, and Alissa Simcox. Other Baylor graduates in attendance included Emily’s parents, David ’71 and Carolyn Carter Nicholson ’70, MA ’76, and Emily’s brother John Nicholson ’07. Emily is major gifts manager for the Newseum in Washington D. C., and her husband is an attorney for Kase and Associates, a real estate firm in Fairfax, Virginia. They live in Arlington, Virginia.

BABY BEAR: Jimmy ’72, MS ’93, and Janet Dorrell ’80, MS ’02, are the proud first-time grandparents of Zoe Marie Dorrell, born June 3 in Chiangmai, Thailand. Zoe’s parents, Josh ’04 and Danielle Dorrell, live and work in India as missionaries with Charley ’97, MA ’00, and Brooke Ashley Ramsey ’98. Grandparents Jimmy and Janet live in Waco, where they direct Mission Waco, but they got to spend two weeks with their newest family member in June.

POWERFUL LEGACY: Baylor freshman Kathryn Hanson (second from the left) is the fouth of these siblings to head to Baylor. Her sister, Terrell (center), is a sernior interior design major; Walker (second from the right) graduated in May and is starting Georgetown Law School in Washington, D. C.; and Brooks also graduated in May and is working for Senator John Cornyn in Dallas. Caroline (in front) and Samuel (far left) will be arriving in due time. The Hansons are the great, great grandchildren of Samuel Palmer Brooks and the children of Gary and Susan Brooks Hanson ’78.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: When this group of Baylorites from Waco exited their hotel on their first morning in Prague, Czech Republic, they were surprised to see this van and couldn’t resist the photo op. They were part of a forty-two-member group traveling with the Baylor Alumni Association and retired Baylor professor Dr. Jim Vardaman on a Danube River cruise in July.
