W. R. White Meritorious Service Award

Every year at Homecoming, the Baylor Alumni Association presents the W. R. White Meritorious Service Award to selected individuals in recognition of their dedicated efforts to make Baylor the best place it can be. Since the award's inception in 1977, nearly 150 people have received the honor.

The roster of recipients is peppered with the well-known names of former regents, donors, long-time professors, administrators, and Baylor presidents. However, the list also includes other Baylor friends who, though they have not held prominent positions, have nonetheless provided invaluable loyalty and service to the university.

For example, the late Roger Edens, owner of Baylor Drug, received the award in 1980 for his lifetime of service to Baylor. Mary Felkner (pictured above, second from left, with other 2006 recipients) was selected for her years of work at Floyd Casey Stadium's ticket office. In 2005, food service employee Jackie Birdwell was honored for his work in the Bill Daniel Student Center cafeteria since 1964.

With regents standing side-by-side with Waco business owners and Baylor staff, the award serves to acknowledge the efforts of everyone welcomed into the Baylor family.
