Russ is the Democratic staff director for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and was previously tax counsel for the committee. A graduate of the University of Texas law school, he previously practiced law with Vinson and Elkins before joining the staff of Senator Bob Graham, where he served until 1999. Russ helped establish the Washington Area Baylor Club and is active in a youth mentoring program through First Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He has one son, Sean Jackson.
